Body Oil During Pregnancy: What to Look For and What to Avoid | Pink Paris Atelier

Pregnancy is a stage of profound change. The body transforms day by day, and with it come questions nobody warned you about: will my skin go back to how it was? What can I use safely, for me and for my baby?

One of the biggest concerns is the skin: avoiding stretch marks, keeping it hydrated and elastic enough to handle so much change. During pregnancy, skin stretches considerably in a short time. Keeping it nourished from the start makes a real difference.

As a mum who's been through two pregnancies, I know first-hand how hard it is to find a product you can genuinely trust. During pregnancy I stopped wearing perfume — scents became overwhelming — and once my daughter was born, I kept it that way. I wanted her to be skin-to-skin with me without any smell getting in the way of that special bond. That experience is what led me to create Huile de Lumière Sublimée: the perfect blend of botanical oils that truly nourish, completely fragrance-free.

It isn't about one miracle ingredient, but the balance between several. Each botanical oil has a role: squalane hydrates without weighing the skin down, rosehip regenerates and improves elasticity, sweet almond softens and calms sensitive skin, avocado nourishes deeply, and grape seed oil provides antioxidants. And tying it all together, vitamin E — essential during pregnancy to protect the skin from oxidative stress and help maintain its elasticity.

Its versatility is another of its great strengths. You can use it for perineal massage, a practice highly recommended in the final weeks of pregnancy. To share a moment of relaxation as a couple, with a leg or back massage after a long day. Even on the face — which is what I do — because its light, fragrance-free texture makes it suitable for all skin types. One single oil for every stage, every moment.

During pregnancy I stopped using everything I'd always used: acids, retinol, perfumes. I wanted to play it safe, and started looking for natural alternatives. I remember buying a detox cleanser with natural ingredients — it seemed harmless — and it left my face completely red, an allergic reaction. That's when I understood that natural doesn't always mean safe. What really matters is knowing every ingredient, where it comes from and why it's in the formula. That's why at Pink Paris Atelier we publish the full INCI list. No secrets.

Ideally, start from the first trimester, before the changes become visible. But if you haven't, don't worry — your skin will let you know. There will come a moment when your belly starts to itch, to feel tight, and that's your sign. Oil applied with a gentle circular massage every day after showering makes a real difference.

And remember that care goes beyond what you apply to your skin. Staying well hydrated and watching your diet matter just as much. Reducing sugar and sweets during pregnancy helps keep glucose levels stable — something your doctor or midwife has probably already mentioned in relation to the glucose tolerance test. Care for your skin from the inside and the outside.

During pregnancy, self-esteem can waver. Marks appear, skin changes, your body no longer quite feels like yours. That's normal to feel. But it's also true that everything finds its place again — and the moments you lived, the honour of bringing a life into the world, nobody can take that away from you.

My wish for every mum is that you enjoy this stage. That you trust your nature — your body knows exactly what it's doing. That you remember you are the channel through which life passes — and that deserves respect, tenderness and kind words toward yourself.

Take care of yourself. Speak to yourself kindly. And when time passes and you look back on this stage, may it be with joy, and with immense pride in being a woman.

With love,

Pink Paris Atelier
